Website Outsourcing

A website is a new tool that requires a new type of operator. The skills discussed previously are essential to building a successful website, and are not always available in a single individual. Depending on the scope of a website project, more than one individual may be required. There are two ways to address the resources needed to create a website; in-house labor, and outsourcing. Outsourcing can sometimes be cheaper, but the website may not depict the message of the company as appropriately as if the website creator had been a member of the company’s staff. Many companies, however, still do out-source website creation work. Sony, GM, and many other large Fortune 500 companies out-source their website creation work to interactive advertising agencies. In most cases at least some portion of a website development project will be outsourced for maximum value and efficiency.

The best solution to the problems raised by outsourcing is to designate a “point-person” from the company to be responsible for acquainting the hired help with the business goals of the company. This point-person must be familiar with the history of a company along with future goals in order to effectively advise the hired help, and ensure that website goals are aligned with those of the company.
